Does MySpace have a Facebook profile?

Look at this.  MySpace is getting closer and closer to attempting to be the new Facebook.

First, Applications.  Facebook had them first, but nothing surprises me more than this little blog post from Tom about the new navigation on MySpace: (click images to enlarge)

Ready for Facebook's?

Is it just me, or is MySpace taking a page out of Facebook?

Facebook Chat

As we speak, Facebook is developing their own chat application, which may or may not allow communication over the Jabber/XMPP Protocol (we all hope it will though).

I, however, like several other nerds that probably exist out there, am trying to get a look at it first.  And, I've gotten very close to succeeding, but I'm very far away.  From the video, I discovered that the employee was using http://www.dev.facebook.com/ which is a special domain name, resolving to 10.1.100.106, and Internal IP address.  Upon setting the IP to that of Facebook in my HOSTS file, I can manage to very slowly pull up a web page.

Anyone else have any further luck getting to the Development version of Facebook?

Facebook or MySpace?

How many people have wondered which social networking website they should use?  Of all the choices, MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, and so many others.  Yet, with all of the competition, the majority are at either MySpace or Facebook.  Well, which one should be your main account?  Some people (like myself) create multiple accounts on nearly every network just for the sake of staying connected to your friends.  So, why are these two networks so popular?

MySpace

Facebook

Fully Customizable Layout Can Only Customize the placement of the applications
Discernable and Unorganized UI across multiple profiles. Standard, Clean, easy to navigate user interface
(Beta) Applications A large library of applications that can interact with the user's profile or computer
Fully Public Profiles Profile's blocked off of visibility by network or friends added
Meta Networking Support Full-Fledged Networking embedded
MySpace TV Facebook's small video app
Large Ads Everywhere Small, generally un-obtrusive ads.

All in all (in my opinion anyway) Facebook is a lot more organized and a lot easier to use (once you get the hang of it).  Maybe this is why it had a growth of 102% when MySpace only grew 2?

About the Author (part 1)

There are some people reading this tech blog of mine, so, I guess I should introduce who I am, eh?  Considering that most people reading this are people I've never talked to before, or some of the people that know me online.

My name is Navarr Barnier.  I'm a sixteen year old student at Klein Collins High School in Houston, Texas.  I work in PHP, (X)HTML, XML, CSS, and am starting to get familiar with JavaScript.  I considering myself a Web Developer.  I can't really do anything with layouts, but code and backend, they are my friends.

Recently, I've started being more active in the Web Design and Development Community.  I've joined the mailing lists for Microformats, became a member of the DataPortability Google (and Facebook) group, Joined the APML Facebook group, and started the process of getting a spot in the HTML5 W3C working group.

I hate the terms, but I love the concepts of Web 2.0, Web 3.0, the Semantic Web.  The internet is truly moving in a good direction.  We are truly entering the Information Technology age.

Those are the basics.  When I post Part 2, I'll cover over what www.gtaero.net is as well as its future.
